Kundalini and Human Potential
Kundalini practices have been used over the years as a way of tapping into human potential. Artists, political leaders, actors and athletes have strived to unlock it’s potency to make them almost superhuman. Whilst some of the methods are dubious and rushed, the idea that Kundalini can unleash huge reservoirs of potential physically, mentally and spiritually is correct. The practice is focused on healing, optimising and unlocking a soul’s purpose and promise.
From the moment we’re born, we accumulate “drag” – things that knock us off balance and often stick. This could be an idea of who we are thrust on us by a parent or bully, a self-defeating pattern that knocks us off course relentlessly, or persistence stress that causes imbalance and illness.
Kundalini yoga is a practice that works through this and leads us to the truth of who we are – the Kundalini mantra is Sat Nam, or truth. It’s a mix of energy work, self-understanding, bodywork, psychology and meditation that leads to perfect alignment with who we are – our soul.
Generally we work with either the chakras – energy centres in the body – or the nadis – energy channels that roughly approximate the autonomic nervous system. For example, if we work with the second chakra, the pelvis / lower back area – we might start with physical exercises to bring about balance and harmony in the muscles, tissues, joints and bones. Then we might start to notice how the area feels, energetically or emotionally – we might find memories there, or insights into who we really are. As the area heals, the chakra starts to perform well and come alive and we get a sense of who we are and why we’re here.
We are also balancing the body, and mind, especially the autonomic nervous system. Which means we come into the socialised, blissful state, where the prefrontal cortex is functioning optimally and we can cast visions and have foresight, untethered from anxiety and lethargy. This is the flow state, where we align with our purpose and our soul, where doors open for us because we aligned with what we’re supposed to be doing. We are focused and harmonised and able to drop elevated emotions and visions into the universe.
Kundalini awakening cannot be rushed. It happens in its own time with diligent, regular practice. Interested? Try a month’s membership for access to hundreds of online classes – click here.
