Description
Reiki is an ancient holistic therapy that uses directed touch to heal, relax and bring about feelings of well-being. I have been a Reiki practitioner since 2002 and am qualified as a Reiki Master in the Usui Tradition.
TOUCH
Touch is a key component of traditional healing and numerous studies have now shown that touch-based healing is effective in lowering blood pressure, reducing symptoms of chronic illness (fibromyalgia, asthma, diabetes, chronic fatigue, autoimmune disease, arthritis), speeding up recovery from illness and injury, managing pain, boosting the immune system, balancing hormones, lowering symptoms of stress and anxiety, increasing production of feelgood hormones such as melatonin, oxytocin and serotonin, lowering inflammation, easing symptoms of depression, and helping with insomnia (sources Stamford University, Ohio State University, Institute of Neurological Sciences in Glasgow, University of Iowa, University of Exeter et al).
WHAT HAPPENS?
During a Reiki treatment, the person receiving the healing lies down, fully clothed, and the Reiki practitioner puts his or her hands either on the body or just above the body in a number of different places. It is quite common during a treatment to feel temperature changes or flows of energy, to see lights or visions, to feel relaxed and blissed out, and even to fall asleep.
After the treatment feelings of relaxation, well-being and vitality can remain for a number of days. As the treatment is very gentle it is suitable for almost everyone. The first trimester of pregnancy and some mental health issues are contra-indicated – please check when booking.
Reiki can be delivered seated if lying down is an issue.
